About

As all three of you who regularly visit this site already know, my name is Maya and I am in limbo. I’ve been saying that for years, but sadly, it is more accurate a claim now than ever before. I’m an unemployed 24 year-old college dropout (twice over, no less) and the clock, she is a-ticking.

Residing in limbo means many things, but mostly it means I have no real ‘purpose,’ as such, at least for the time being. No classes to attend, no boss to report to, no lover to hound mercilessly to an early grave. In theory, this sounds like it could be liberating. In practice, you end up watching an obscene number of movies and TV shows, spending way too much of your rapidly diminishing savings, and secretly hoping that Smirnoff will magically contact you and ask you to be their new spokesperson; you’ve earned it.

Meanwhile, the majority of your higher mental faculties are paralyzed by a kind of silent panic. The idea is that if you just don’t think about it too much, if you camouflage the quiet desperation, gently laying down a flimsy mat woven with large, metaphorical jungle leaves of nonchalance, maybe some meaning will just FALL into your life by accident.

Then you can club it, stun it, and do with it what you will.

This blog (which used to live elsewhere) started out as my first real attempt to channel my sloth into something vaguely productive. Because, clearly, what this world needs is yet another website about nothing in particular.

*Other Salient Facts:

I am not the kind of girl you fall in love with, but I have been known to inspire a respectable amount of Like.

I currently live in Portland, OR.

I am half-Korean and grew up in Seoul, but due to a cruel twist of fate (and genes), I am both fat and very, very white. In other words, I am a Stealth Asian.

Recently, I purchased a laminating machine. To laminate things with.

I am (theoretically) working on my first graphic novel.

I spend hours, every day, watching and rewatching different combinations of
the following shows: Arrested Development, Flight of the Conchords, Black Books, League of Gentlemen, Reno 911, Stella, The State, Peep Show, The Office, Extras, Fawlty Towers, BrassEye. It’s not a good scene.

I like getting emails: maya.west <at> mac.com
